Nuragic civilization

The Nuragic civilization was a civilization of Sardinia, lasting from the Bronze Age (18th century BC) to the 2nd century AD. The name derives from its most characteristic monuments, the nuraghes. They consist of tower-fortresses, built starting from about 1800 BC.〔(Giovanni Lilliu, ''Sardegna Nuragica'', (Edizioni Maestrali) 2006 )〕 Today some 7,000 nuraghes〔There is no complete census, but the figure of 7,000 in E. Contu, "L'architettura nuraghica", in E. Atzeni et al., ''Ichnussa'', 1985:5, is often repeated, and 'the (Provincia di Cagliari website ), estimatesmore than 7,000.〕 dot the Sardinian landscape.
No written record of this civilization seems to have come down to us.〔Parole di segni, L'alba della scrittura in Sardegna, Sardegna archeologica, Guide e Itinerari, M.Monoja, C.Cossu, M.Migaleddu, Carlo Delfino Editore, Sassari, 2012〕 The only informations, more mythological than historical, that we have, come from the much later Greek-Roman classic literature.〔La Sardegna nelle fonti classiche, M.Perra, S'Alvure editrice, Oristano, 1993〕
